Decision-Making

Making decisions can frequently be very challenging. Consequently, whenever a decision needs to be made, particularly if it will have a significant impact, it is common to find people being unable to make up their minds. Some decisions could either move one forward or backward. When forced to take action, a lot of people usually become paralyzed. Some are so afraid that they would rather keep things the same. However, if no choice is taken, growth may not occur.

After passing the Junior Secondary School Certificate Examination, I realized how crucial decision-making is when I had to pick between science, the arts, and commerce. I was at a loss for what to do. As a youngster, it was probably natural that I wasn’t really sure what I wanted to do with my life. Since my parents already referred to me as a nurse, the idea of becoming one initially piqued my interest. “Sisi Nurse! You have the stature of a nurse, you know?” used to be my mother’s catchphrase. (How I wish nursing was all about height!). I quickly understood that if I were to pursue a career in nursing, I would probably just show up all nurse-like and sit around all day staring at patients because the mere sight of needles and syringes typically gives me the shivers. I have trouble breathing easily and have a hard time enduring seeing blood in hospitals.

Along the way, I started to develop a strong urge to become a traveller. I considered how fascinating it would be for me to travel. I imagined the lovely sites I would see. It seemed like a profession that I would never get bored with. Similar to what I see in movies. But there was an issue; back then, I wasn’t aware of how to pay for my travels or how financially independent such a vocation would make me.

Once more, my intentions changed. This time, I had the fantasy of being a pilot. They are in a league of their own. Their stern demeanour and the attitude they exude seem to proclaim, “We are special!” In addition, I’ll get to travel a lot if I become a pilot. I changed my opinion after viewing several news reports on passenger deaths due to aviation crashes.

Everybody must choose, just like I eventually did. Every person makes decisions that affect their life in some way, either directly or indirectly. It’s critical to understand that by selecting one option, we must forsake another. We should be able to live with our choices. I discovered that one of the basic problems I had was the fear of the unknown. I couldn’t stop imagining what would occur if I chose a particular course of action. I thought about every situation that might happen and refused to settle for any. While taking such outcomes into account is wise, this shouldn’t be done out of fear. One should have faith in the Holy Spirit as well as God’s word. Some scriptures that have been helpful for me are:

And thine ears shall hear a word behind thee, saying, This is the way, walk ye in it, when ye turn to the right hand, and when ye turn to the left. Isaiah 30:21 (KJV).

Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. Proverbs 3:5-6(KJV).

And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. Romans 8 :28(KJV)

Finally, we need to do our homework correctly. Investigate problems and look for information; it will be beneficial. Consider seeing a counsellor if necessary. Rarely can anyone make important decisions on your behalf. Learn these and make wise decisions.
